Our Story
Our Story
The idea for Korion Health™ came to CEO Anna Li in 2021, when she was an MD-PhD student working in the ER during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anna noticed an increase in patients coming in for preventable conditions, often because they faced barriers making it into the clinic in-person and had missed routine screenings.
She pinged her computational friend Akshaya, and together, they started building a solution. For them, it was personal - as the children of immigrants, Anna and Akshaya had first-hand experience with barriers to accessing care.
With their complementary skills and the help of the Pittsburgh community, they developed their first prototype - a 3D-printed, affordable electronic stethoscope paired with a guided interface that used augmented reality to reliably teach laypersons how to use it. Their dream was that this tool would enable every patient to get high-quality cardiopulmonary screenings from home, and in 2022, this dream became Korion Health™.
